Welcome!

Hi, I’m Emi!

You may have met me through traveling; at a food show; or locally, whether it be at Hachiroku, The Loop, or the Teaching Kitchen. I’m honored that you’re here!

This webpage is curated to answer the FAQ’s encountered throughout my daily life. I hope it satiates any questions you may have, but feel free to inquire further ~

My story is challenging to tell. The path I followed (my stomach) has aligned with the various food adventures throughout my life.

Experiences I picked up along the way were in culinary/hospitality, future foods, clinical/life sciences, and health/wellness topics. I am originally from Southern California, but left to pursue doctoral studies in Food Science in the Northeast. Things took a turn during the pandemic, so I left with my Master’s degree in Sensory Science. If you have any questions on food, I likely know a paper for that.

Contrary to popular belief, most food scientists have never stepped in the back-of-house of a kitchen. Due to my interest (read: addiction) in sushi and Japanese cuisine, I found myself work across several establishments while going through school, and even more recently at Hachiroku, when I left the food industry. Unfortunately for many, as a result I am a sushi (and boba) snob, but will always prioritize good energy and company over my pickiness with food.

It is my goal to bring joy to someone like you, by empowering you with knowledge, fostering our communities, and supporting connections to resources in providing the joy of a good Quality of Life.

Currently, my project is on boba/tea education or “edutainment” through experience-focused teaching. Please bear with me, I am finding my way through all the side quests I assigned myself!

Projects where I have personally worked on the food, will likely have a semblance of a watermark (“C” logo) as seen in the cookies on the left. This is to differentiate those which are my recommendations or food outings, and ones where my work has gone into it.
Hope you are able to enjoy the views.

Thanks for stopping by! See you soon!
